Qixian Duck Rice
About This Spot
Stepping into Qixian Duck Rice feels like joining a quietly cherished local ritual in the heart of Kaohsiung’s Qianjin District. It’s the kind of place where time slows just a little, with a steady hum of conversation and the clatter of bowls setting a familiar rhythm. Despite its modest size—just a handful of tables—there’s a warmth that radiates from the staff and the simple, well-loved interiors, inviting you to settle in and savor each bite without rush.
This spot carries the gentle weight of decades, a neighborhood gem that locals navigate with practiced ease and understanding. The air in the room hints at the slow-cooked grace behind the signature duck dishes—the savory richness hanging softly like a comforting promise. Here, small plates and brothy soups arrive with an unpretentious elegance, each spoonful revealing layers of traditional Taiwanese flavors quietly perfected over time.
The experience thrives on discovery: a bite of tender duck infused with a secret gravy that feels both familiar and mysterious, the warm embrace of herb-infused soups on cooler days, and the modest portions that encourage sharing and lingering just a moment longer. Though lines may hint at its popularity, there's a reassuring efficiency and friendliness that means you never have to wait long to taste the local favorite.
Qixian Duck Rice captures an unspoken local affection—a place where the food is a pathway into community life, and every visit feels like stepping into a story told in comforting, savory chapters rather than hurried accolades.

I have saved this as I plan to go back here every time I am in Kaohsiung.

Locals love this place, there is a consistent line. They say it's been around for over 40 years. The duck rice is infused with some kind of secret duck gravy. Portion are small so make sure you order a couple to avoid having to queue all over again.

Good service. There was a line but we got the food in less than 5 minutes. Very satisfied. Thank you!

Mainly locals. Duck rice was great. Soups ordered were heartwarming in the cool weather. Dan gui + duck intestines (?). Damage: 165

Nice taste with affordable price. The vendor environment is not as good as McDonald or KFC, however it is tasty and very popular. Customers used to queue for 10 minutes to order. It is recommended to visit if you like duck.

Cheap and tasty; maybe a bit difficult for foreigners to order but you can look at the photo from Google review

When it comes to meat with rice, this is a GEM! Chiayi chicken rice tends to be dry and bland, braised pork rice is also on the oily side. But this! The rice is soaked with duck juices, it's moist but not soggy, all the while emitting a hint of herbal fragrance. It's either crazy good or we're crazy hungry, probably both. It's cheap too!
